Pools & Outdoor Living in Southlake, TX

The whole backyard as one coordinated system — not just the pool.

Southlake lives outdoors. The country-club culture around Timarron, and the resort-style amenities at Carillon and Clariden Ranch, set an expectation — and the city's generous lots give homeowners the room to meet it in their own backyard. That usually means more than a pool: a pool and spa, a covered outdoor kitchen and living room, a fireplace, and the grading, drainage, landscaping, and lighting that tie it into a single space you use most of the year.

The backyard as one design

A pool from one company, a patio cover from another, and an outdoor kitchen from a third is how you end up with three warranties and a yard that doesn't drain. We design the whole backyard as one project so the levels, sightlines, and utilities are coordinated from the start — the pool decking meets the covered structure cleanly, gas and water and power reach the kitchen without an afterthought trench, and the finished space reads as one room, not three purchases.

Pools, decking, and expansive clay

Southlake's expansive Blackland-type clay moves with the seasons, and that movement is exactly what cracks a pool deck or tilts coping when the flatwork is poured without accounting for it. Decking gets proper base prep, control joints, and drainage; the pool shell and its plumbing are engineered for the soil. On mature lots in the older neighborhoods, we also plan around established root systems, since trees and pools competing for the same ground rarely ends well for either.

Systems that make an outdoor room work

An outdoor kitchen and pool lean on the trades. A state-licensed electrician bonds and grounds the pool to code and runs the circuits for equipment and lighting; a state-licensed plumber handles the gas line for a grill, fireplace, or fire feature and the water and drainage. Doing it to code is also what keeps it safe.

Permits for the backyard, too

A pool and most permanent outdoor structures are permitted through the City of Southlake Building Inspections division on the Tyler EnerGov Self-Service portal, and Texas requires a compliant safety barrier around the pool. Southlake also won't issue that permit to a general contractor who isn't registered with the city — an annual, online registration under its contractor ordinance — so the builder pulling your pool permit has to be on file first. We keep our registration current.
